4x400 Relay Team Sets School Record at Penn Relays

The Duquesne women's track and field team has a busy weekend as they participated in the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Thursday and returned to Pittsburgh Saturday for the Carnegie Mellon Senior Meet.

At the Penn Relays, running in front of a crowd of over 15,000 people, the 4x400 relay team of Melissa Miller, Kathy Parker, Charlene Garth and Erica Moody finished first in their heat. Their time of 3:50.60 set a new Duquesne school record that has stood since 2006.

Sierra Larsuel participated in the Long Jump Eastern She finished 20th with a distance of 17.4.75 and Katie Kelly finished the steeplechase in 11:19.

At CMU, Diane Durkin won the 400m with a time of 1:02.92, followed my teammate Liz Sullivan who crossed in 1:02.94. Amanda Collins took first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09.09.

In the jumps, Larsuel took first place in the long jump with a distance of 17-6. Sarah Cappo had a third place finish in the high jump (4-11.75), Daniela Siciliano (10-6) placed fourth and Arianna Cort sixth (8-6) in the pole vault. Christine Swanson (35-10) and Christine Murawski (35-2) finished third and fourth respectively in the triple jump.
 

 

The throwers had a good day as Arin Whitman was first in the discus with a distance of 128-7. Sydney Schwab placed first in the Javelin with a distance of 126-1 followed by Whitman (120-5) and Katie Ale (105-4). Corinne Free (36-1.50) and Whitman (34-5.75) were second and third in the shot put. Whitman also participated in the hammer throw, finishing second with a distance of 136-0.

Up next for the team is the Atlantic 10 Championships May 3 and May 4 on the campus of the University of Massachusetts.
